World Book Day 2014

From Monday 3rd to Friday 7th March, the school library hosted a whole week of exciting, bookish events to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 6th.

On Monday, students enjoyed a lively Treasure Hunt matching up classic children’s books posters with clues about them.  The winners of the treasure hunt were: 1st – Yar-Ting Zou and Evie Tosh; and 2nd – Amy Thomas and Hannah Cooling.

On Tuesday, there was a calmer lunchtime with a Book Cover Design Competition.  The entries were of a very high standard and the winners difficult to choose.  They were, however: 1st Lamara Wilson, 2nd Yar-Ting Zou and 3rd Mia Hopkins. The designs are on display in the library and are pictured here on the right, as is another 'world-wide' display created for the week itself.

On Wednesday, the librarians organised scrabble, wordsearches and word unscrambling.

Thursday was World Book Day itself and students had a great time testing the general and book knowledge of our Year 7 form teams and their chosen members of staff for our House Quiz.  The following teams were placed in the Quiz:

1st – 7.8 with Mr Brown for Castille

2nd equal – 7.4 with Miss Thompson for Avalon and 7.7 with Mr Cann for Sempringham

4th equal – 7.5 with Miss Williams for Avalon and 7.2 with Mrs Erskine for Castille

On Friday afternoon, all of Year 7 enjoyed the special Biggest Book Show on Earth broadcast with interviews and tips from a range of top authors and illustrators.

Well done to all our participants and winners and thanks to staff, A-Level Art students and the librarians.
