Sports Development

Type of Course: BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and/or Diploma (Development, Coaching and Fitness)

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and/or Diploma offers a specialist qualification that   focuses on particular aspects of employment within the Sports Industry sector.  As such, the    subsidiary diploma offers a qualification, which can extend the study and provide vocational   emphasis for learners following an AVCE or GCE route or a combination of both in their main programme of study.

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma provides the underpinning knowledge and understanding for success in current and future employment.  The course offers the students a chance to study a range of units that can provide the baseline for future employment or training, especially in areas such as sports development, outdoor education, training and fitness.  The focused nature of the   qualification provides the range and type of units that will enhance these progression               opportunities and provide access to further qualifications and employment in any of these identified areas.

The course is assessed purely on coursework, which can be presented in many different formats.  These can range from power-point presentations, coaching logs, reports and essays. There are no formal examinations.

Unit 3  Assessing Risk in Sport
Unit 7  Fitness training and programming

Unit 4  Fitness testing for sport and exercise
Unit 5  Sports Coaching
Unit 6   Sports Development
Unit 8  Practical Team Sports (only Diploma)
Unit 10 Outdoor and adventurous activities (only Diploma)
Unit 11 Sports Nutrition (only Diploma)
Unit 13 Leadership in Sport (only Diploma)
Unit 17 Psychology for Sports Performance (only Diploma)
Unit 18 Sports Injuries (only Diploma)

The subject is useful to students wishing to pursue a variety of careers including: leisure        management, fitness consultancy, teaching, sports psychology, the armed forces, emergency   services and many other occupations within the expanding sport and leisure industry.
