Gifted & Talented

At the Priory Academy LSST we aim to offer challenge to all our learners. We have a comprehensive ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme which is designed to help our most able students thrive. As recognition of the opportunities for progress and enrichment that we offer the school currently holds the prestigious NACE accreditation.

Pupils are admitted to the ‘Gifted and Talented’ register in one of two ways.

  1. By achieving a high score on their CAT tests in year 7. A score that would put them in the top 3% of intelligence nationally.
  2. By receiving a ‘teacher nomination’ from departments in recognition of their outstanding work and potential in a certain subject area.

The parents of children who are given a place on the ‘Gifted and Talented’ register will receive a letter informing them of this. They will also be provided with a booklet suggesting websites and external agencies who they may wish to work with.

There is a wealth of activities available in school for those pupils who are identified as gifted and talented. Many of these are subject based and include the likes of Maths extension, History G & T club and a variety of sporting opportunities to name just a few.  There is also extension group which runs for selected pupils in years 8-10 and allows pupils to explore subjects and concepts not on the curriculum.

In sixth form the ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme extends to helping students with their university or career choices. Some students choose to attend the academies conference which is a national event offering an eclectic range of speakers and thought provoking topics. The school based Oxbridge conference provides information and support for those considering making an application to some of the country’s top institutions.

Pupils at The Priory Academy LSST are proud of their place in the Gifted and Talented programme and thrive on the opportunities and challenges available.
