Cadets (CCF)

Grob TutorThe Priory CCF meets most Tuesday nights in the English / Art area of the Sixth Form Centre from 3.30 until 5.30. The evening begins with a parade and some drill for 20 minutes. Then the different sections and age cohorts divide up and are taught lessons mainly by the senior cadets. There is a cadre cause and training provided by the Cadet Training Team which allows the older cadets to undertake leadership and teacher training to provide them with the skills to become effective instructors.

The Priory CCF is purely voluntary, but once they decide to join, they should attend on a regular basis. The kit and uniform issued is all accountable to the Ministry of Defence, so it is vital that cadets take care of stores that are issued.

VikingtThe CCF has an indoor 25m range and uses the pool for SCUBA diving training. Once a term the CCF undertakes a field day when cadets leave school to undertake some form of training. Cadets over 16 qualify to apply to a wide range of courses and expeditions. Many RAF cadets undertake a week of glider training and may “go solo” if they reach the required standard.

Cadets have visited bases in Cyprus and Germany and have the opportunity to go The Priory Federation’s centre in Normandy. Both CCF sections have summer camps that allow cadets to undertake work experience and live on military camps for a week. Most activities are highly subsidised. The summer camps cost around £30 while field training and flying are free. Foreign visits tend to be more expensive, the Cyprus camp is in the region of £360.
