Cadets

The ACF detachment is led by a member of staff who is also a commissioned officer with a wealth of experience, enthusiastically supported by a team of volunteers drawn from the staff within the Academy.

The Academy detachment is open to all students and has a significant number of female cadets.  Our focus is adventure and enjoyment.

Attendance is voluntary and the cadets have the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised academic and non-academic qualifications, including the Duke of Edinburgh award..

In addition to regular weekly training afternoons at the Academy, the cadets can also attend weekend training trips and annual camp to train and socialise with army cadets from across the county and country.

They also receive instruction in basic military skills such as drill, navigation, weapon training, field-craft, signals, first aid, sports and leadership skills.

It is a closed detachment which means that it is only open to pupils within the Academy. The cadets are affiliated to the Royal British Legion and wear the cap badge of the Royal Logistic Corps.

The detachment is heavily involved with the local community; often raising money for local charities.

Recently the detachment has procured its own rifle range, enabling the cadets to carry out weapon training on a weekly basis.

The cadets have visited numerous sites, including a London tour, and thoroughly enjoyed the annual camp in Northumbria.
