Business

Key Stage 4

Course Title: Business

Qualification: BTEC Award / Certificate

Awarding Body: Edexcel

Description of Course
This course teaches students how businesses work and students will work towards completing a business model for their own business ideas.  Students will cover 4 topics:

  • Enterprise in the Business World - What is a business and what does it do?  Students will learn how trends and the current business environment impacts on organisations and present their own business model and ideas.
  • Finance for Business - All businesses have to spend money before they can make profit.  Students will learn how businesses plan for success and how they measure success and identify improvements.
  • Promoting a brand - A successful business promotes itself to its customers through its brand and image.  In this unit students will learn how to promote products to customers and create their own promotional campaign.
  • Principles of Customer Service - In a world of increasing competition businesses look to their customer services to give them an edge over competitors.  In this unit students will understand how businesses provide customer service and demonstrate some of the skills required.

Examination – N/A                            Coursework – 100%

Description of Course: Students at first are offered the opportunity to study core business units that cover the fundamental requirements of the subject allowing students to work towards specialism in specific units, these core topics include;

  • The Business Environment (The unit introduces learners to a range of business activities. They will consider the purposes of different organisations and the influence of stakeholders and how businesses organise themselves through strategic planning and organisational structures
  • Business Resources (This unit will give learners a broad understanding of the importance organisations place on managing their resources efficiently in order to achieve their objectives.
  • Introduction to Marketing (Marketing is at the heart of every organisation’s activity. Its importance is also growing in the non-commercial, public and voluntary sectors. Also, at the heart of marketing is the customer. This unit will introduce learners to some of the tools and techniques all types of organisations use to achieve their objectives.

 

Business Communication (The aim of this unit is to show learners that the collection and management of business information, and the successful communication of that information throughout a business).

To achieve a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to one A Level) 6 units have to be completed to Pass, Merit or Distinction standard.
