Singapore Visit June 2014

On Monday 17th June 2014, 20 students and two members of staff, from Anderson Secondary School in Singapore arrived at The Priory City of Lincoln Academy to, once again, learn about how teaching and learning is practised in an English school.

The visit was part of an itinerary that included visits to cities such as: Manchester, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Cambridge and London. Their tour included: Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in the Lake District; the Bronte Parsonage in Haworth and Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford so we are very privileged to be part of their visit to the UK. The academy was the only school on their busy schedule and this is the third time they have chosen to visit our school.

Prior to their arrival, 20 of our Year 10 students were paired up with their counterparts from Anderson Secondary and learnt about each other through email and networking sites.

Upon arrival and, after the initial introductions, students were engaged in conversation with one another and had plenty to say about their lives.

The rest of the day was spent with the Andersonians involved in activities with their partner which included: a tour of the school; an English or Maths lesson; a competitive game of Dodgeball, an opportunity to observe an option subject and finally a delicious English afternoon tea complete with the finest china and scones, strawberries and cream.
At the end of the day and after many photographs, gifts were exchanged and everyone involved showed great reluctance to say goodbye.

We hope to host the visitors from Anderson Secondary in a regular biennial visit. Perhaps, one day, we can go to Singapore.
