Academy hosts launch of sporting Legacy Challenge

The Priory City of Lincoln Academy played host to VIP guests and visiting primary schools for the official launch of a post-Olympics fitness campaign called Legacy Challenge.

Baroness Sue Campbell, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust, was the guest of honour for a ceremony which took place in the academy's lecture theatre.

Dignitaries from Lincolnshire Public Health, sports charity Inspire+ and the national Legacy Challenge organisation then moved to the Main Hall to watch children from 20 visiting primary schools learn about the new health and fitness programme.

Legacy Challenge activities are designed to:

  • Encourage pupils to become healthier and more active at school and within their communities
  • Increase the number of students taking part in intra and inter-school competition
  • Develop leadership skills among young people

Baroness Campbell said: "It's critical that we all work together on health issues. Health and well-being are central to creating a better society.

"Lord Coe hoped the London Olympics would lead people all over the world to choose sport. In Lincoln today we can see his vision taking new shape."
