Our weekend of sport and adventure

Students from Years 10 and 11 enjoyed an action-packed weekend when The Priory City of Lincoln Academy's netball squad travelled to a tournament at a PGL centre in Wiltshire. Here, two of the girls who took part describe the experience ...

After five long hours we finally arrived at our destination: Liddington, Wiltshire. The staff were welcoming and the accommodation was comfortable and clean. After we had unpacked and settled into our rooms, it was time for dinner. There was a wide range of food available, catering for everyone’s needs.

Shortly after dinner, we were called into the Liddington Suite with various other schools. We took part in a variety of activities such as a quiz and parachute games. For the remainder of the evening we were able to relax in our rooms or spend time in the lounge.  The lounge was great, accommodating pool tables, dance machines, air hockey tables and televisions.

The next morning after breakfast we were able to participate in 'queue and do' activities including; Abseiling, Aeroball, Archery, Giant Swing, Trapeze, Vertical Challenge and Zip wire. We had a fantastic time, trying activities we hadn’t experienced before. Click here to see a gallery of photos from the weekend.

Following lunch, we had several netball matches in which our team, consisting of Y10 and Y11 ladies, played exceptionally well. On the first day, we won two of the five games. However, as the day progressed the team showed significant improvement. The end results from day one were: Sacred Heart 4-3 (loss); Newport 5-7 (win); Dene Magna
4-1 (loss); Langley 4-5 (win) and Bishop 2-0 (loss).

Later that night, we had to choose from a variety of evening activities. Most of us chose Ambush, leaving the rest to watch a film. Ambush is a game in which you have two teams of around 10 people. One team goes and hides outside (in the dark), leaving the other team to try and find them. It was great fun and we made some new friends from Birmingham!

The next day, we had two hours of ‘free activity’. We split into small groups, with one group doing some more ‘queue and do’ and the rest relaxing in their rooms.

We played the remaining games with six players due to illness, but our team didn’t give up and won our first match of the day against Stoke Damerel, 7-1. Although we were successful, it was hard to keep our heads up for the next two games. With a bit of support from the PGL staff we were soon playing again. Although we lost both of the remaining matches, we had beaten the overall winners of the tournament.

A great weekend – one we would thoroughly recommend for future students!
