ANSWERS:

  1. EXOTHERMIC: This type of reaction releases more energy when chemical bonds are made than the energy that is needed to break the bonds in the reactants. This causes a rise in the temperature of the surroundings.
  2. GLUCOSE: It is produced in photosynthesis and used in respiration. It joins up (polymerise) to form sugar and starch
  3. CONICAL: Looks like an upside down ice-cream cone. It is named after the German chemist Emil Erlenmeyer, who created it in 1860.
  4. SOOT is produced: The yellow flame is due to hot un burnt carbon particles (soot particulates) that are a pollutant and a major cause of concern as a carcinogen.
  5. EVAPORATION: The particles of the liquid have different amounts of heat energy and some have sufficient to break the bonds holding them in the liquid state and become a gas.
