Maths Challenge Success

Last Friday afternoon we hosted, and competed in, the Lincolnshire Round of the Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC).  There were teams from 18 schools, including most of the Lincolnshire grammar schools, competing in three rounds of really hard maths questions.  Our team consisted of Alex Chadwick, Emma Findlay, Danielle Cole and Jack Coady, with Mrs Holland as the accompanying teacher.

After all the bacon bagels and sausage butties had been eaten, and the ‘cross-number’ and ‘team relay’ had been completed, we found that there were two teams tied for first place.  We were one of those teams and therefore we were joint winners of the competition, together with Caistor Grammar (an improvement on last year’s second place).  This means that the team will now take part in the National Final in London in February, where they will get the chance to compete with 50 or 60 teams from some of the most prestigious schools in the country.

I can’t overstate the quality of the performance of the four team members – it really is difficult to do so well, and some of the questions were incredibly challenging.  If you see them around please congratulate them.

Thank you.

Mr Milner.
