Under 16 Netball Squad – Dominate at the District Championships

The Priory Academy LSST  Under 16s squad had their annual district tournament on the 15th of October. The team got the tournament off to a great start with a 10-0 win against NK. It took a couple minutes for the team to settle into the game, but it didn’t take long for our defence, Maria, Lia and Hannah, to make some lovely interceptions in order to gain possession. Once the squad carried confidence we began to play as a team and get the ball down the court successfully to our shooters. Erin and Mia managed to score some amazing shots from quite a distance.

Our second game was against Minster 2. Once again, we played very well as soon as the ball was given out on the centre pass. Ella drove out quickly on every centre pass making it very hard for her player to defend her.  The balls given into the D were mostly accurate giving the team many chances to score goals. It finished,7-4, another victory.

Winning the two games put the squad into the semi-finals. Unfortunately in the first quarter the team didn’t play as well as they had been doing in the first two games. By the end of the first quarter the score was 6-3 to Minster 1. After an encouraging team talk (and a telling off) the team were very determined to win it back. Outstanding drives and shooters from Alice and Mia gave us the lead we needed in the end to secure our place in the next round of the tournament.

In the final we were up against a much more experienced team, QE, who we have played many times before - occasionally losing.  The team worked very well together and the score was neck and neck until the final whistle drawing 5-5. Lia made some beautiful runs down the court for support and with accurate passing to the shooters from Lily and Ella the team were very pleased with the draw.

Overall the team played so well together and everyone is very excited for the next round of the tournament which we are determined to do well in.
