Sainsbury's School Winter Games 2014

On Wednesday the KS3 girls and boys badminton teams travelled to Grantham Meres to represent the City of Lincoln in the Winter Games 2014. After both teams qualified as runners up in the first round back in January. Both teams were looking forward to the day and seemed confident in their performance.

The girls team got of to a great start by comfortably winning 4 out of 5 of their games against Boston giving them great confidence . They next face KGGS who showed strength in their smashes in the warm up and seem to dominate on court. The girls continued to fight on and never let their spirits drop, final score 5-0 to KGGS. The girls made it through to the bronze playoff position and were excited to have another chance to win medal!! We faced Horncastle a school that we had watch beat other schools with ease. Nevertheless the girls enjoyed the challenge ahead and with some lovely doubles play from Ciara and Farida, and Fern and Lydia the girls continued to work hard for every point. Final score 5-0 to a Horncastle.

The boys team seemed disheartened from the start as in their first game they faced William Farr, regular national contenders. Despite our 5-0 defeat the boys made it difficult work for Will Farr and played some beautiful badminton as singles players and with their doubles partners. We then faced De Aston school and the boys seem determined not to drop anymore games. With some powerful smashes from Harry Pang and some fancy dives from Chris Fear the boys made their victory look easy, final score 5-0 to The Priory Academy LSST. Again the boys matched the girls in reaching the bronze playoff position where we faced our federation friends Ruskin Academy. With some nail biting games we steadily worked our way to a 5-0 victory. But it wasn't easy, Chris Fear made a massive come back from 15-6 to win the final game 21-18.
