U16 Girls Badminton County Champions

On Tuesday afternoon the U16 badminton squad, Hannah Kempster, Olivia Caunt, Zoe Dunnet and Liz Ashcroft travelled to William Farr School to play against 4 different schools who had qualified for the County finals. We played a mixture of singles and doubles games against each of the schools and throughout the competition was tight, each point mattered! We face KGGS first and after some excellent smashes and teamwork for the doubles pairings the girls won 3 games to 2.

We then went onto play Boston High School, the girls were confident and relaxed and played some beautiful Badminton ensuring they didn’t drop points along the way. Final score 5 games to 0. The final match was against Horncastle who seemed strong and powerful. The girls were determined that this would not put them off. Olivia Caunt lost her singles match 20-21 but came back with Zoe in the doubles to beat there pairing 21-17. Hannah Kempster again kept it tight by beating their singles player 21-18 but unfortunately Liz and Zoe lost their doubles match it was all on the final match of Hannah and Zoe. The match was tense and at times stressful, but the girls kept there nerve until the end unfortunately we lost out by one point.

Then KGGS went onto beat Horncastle 3 game to 2 so all 3 teams came joint 1st place, this is where it came down to point difference:

Horncastle 87 point difference

KGGS 112 point difference

The Priory LSST 113 point difference

Well done girls you are county champions every point mattered and you played exceptional well, an utter delight to watch!
