Young Enterprise

On the 26th March 2015 our three Young Enterprise teams Nascent Relay, Synergy and Valiancy travelled to Bishop Grosseteste to compete in the Greater Lincoln Area YE competition. For those who don’t know Young Enterprise is a national programme that allows teams of students to create their own companies, design and create their own products, make their own entrepreneurial  decisions and retain any profits.
As soon as they arrived at BG the teams were put through their paces by business and industry experts who were judging the event. There were 3 stages, firstly the groups presented their products in the form of a trade stand, then they were interviewed and finally they gave a presentation to room packed with the competition, experienced entrepreneurs and business directors. All the groups performed superbly and did the school proud.
On the night eight awards were available, and one of our groups Synergy took a record 5, including the main prize of Best Company! They also won Best Company Report, Best Presentation, Best Trade Stand and Best Innovation. No group from the school has ever won so many awards at the Greater Lincoln finals and this is a fantastic achievement rewarding their excellent efforts. If you are not aware their product ‘You Don’t Understand’ is a series of books about raising teenagers by teenagers and has been produced to the highest quality.
Nascent Relay and Valiancy also put in superb efforts and were certainly unlucky not to win an award or two. Both teams have worked really hard over the last 6 months and have grown as teams and in terms of their entrepreneurial skills. Whilst they are out of the competition we look forward to seeing both teams continue to grow their enterprises as they have much potential.
Just the day before Synergy were also on the radio discussing their products. Ed Newnham reports:
On the 25th of March, 4 members of Team Synergy from across the sixth form attended the morning show with Melvin Prior, to talk about Young Enterprise. Their product (“You don’t Understand”, a parent’s guide to understanding teenagers) was discussed in great detail on the show, with the panel being tasked with answering a lot of questions on the topic. In accordance with this, the show also spoke to Mr Sleight about the Young Enterprise project in general, hopefully inspiring young entrepreneurs for next year’s competition! Overall the trip was a great success, with Radio Lincolnshire expressing their thanks, and the producer even buying a pack of books!
