Academy success in festival debut

Sports teams from The Priory Academy LSST set the highest possible standards when we made our debut at the prestigious Welbeck Defence College Sports Festival.

The event, which takes place at the Loughborough military college every two years, is open to boarding schools up and down the country.

And The Priory's Year 9 boys topped our achievements in our first ever appearance in the tournament by coming home with the football trophy after a tightly-fought competition.

All of our students competed tirelessly and were a credit to the academy. A number of the teams we put out were younger than the set age bracket so gained valuable experience from competing against strong opposition.

In addition to the Year 9 football, we also entered teams in Year 7 netball, Year 11 volleyball and Sixth Form rugby.

The players had a fantastic day and the experience was one that they will remember for a long time. To be involved in such a large event with other state boarding schools was a big eye-opener for some and one that definitely set a precedent for the future years of the festival.

Who knows - we might have 15 state boarding schools all competing at The Priory a few years down the line!
